This page is for users of the SafetyNet Wireless Android app (Google Play package com.safetynetwireless.app). It explains how to delete your app account, what is removed, what we are required to keep, and how long it takes. You can delete your account inside the app, or ask us to do it for you. Either way it is free and you do not need to give a reason.

Deleting the app does not cancel your phone service, and does not affect your Lifeline benefit.

Your SafetyNet Wireless line keeps working and your Lifeline benefit stays exactly as it is. If what you want is to cancel your service, that is a separate request. See Cancelling your phone service below.

Three different things

People often mean one of three things by delete my account. They are separate, and doing one does not do the others:

1. Delete your app account

Removes your login to the SafetyNet Wireless app and the data held in it. This page is for that. Your phone service and Lifeline benefit are unaffected.

2. Cancel your SafetyNet Wireless service

Ends your phone service. A separate, deliberate request made by phone so we can verify it is really you.

3. Leave the Lifeline program

Ends the federal and, in California, state subsidy on your line. This is a regulated process. It is not something you can do by deleting an app, and we cannot do it silently on your behalf.

Option 1: Delete your account in the app

  1. Open the SafetyNet Wireless app and sign in with your SafetyNet phone number and the 6-digit code we text you.
  2. Tap Profile.
  3. Tap Delete account.
  4. Read the summary of what will be deleted, then tap Delete to confirm.

You are signed out right away and your account is scheduled for deletion. We confirm the deletion to the email address held on your account once it is complete.

Option 2: Ask us to delete it, no app needed

Use this if you have already uninstalled the app, cannot sign in, or simply prefer to ask us. Any one of these works:

Please include in your request:
  • Your full name as it appears on the account
  • The SafetyNet Wireless phone number on the account
  • The words delete my app account

To be sure the request is really from you, we may text the phone number on the account, or reply to the email address on file, before we act on it. The app has no password, you sign in with a code we text you, so we will never ask you for a password, and we will never ask for your full Social Security number.

What gets deleted

  • Your app account and your ability to sign in to the app
  • The profile details held in the app account, your name and ZIP code
  • Your SafetyNet Perks loyalty points balance and reward history. Points are forfeited and cannot be restored, so redeem them first if you want to use them
  • The device token used to send you push notifications, so your phone stops receiving app notifications
  • Your in-app order history, notifications and app settings

What we are required to keep

Some records live in our enrollment and billing systems rather than in the app. We are required to keep them, and deleting your app account does not and cannot remove them:

RecordWhy it is kept
Lifeline enrollment, eligibility and recertification recordsRequired by the federal Lifeline rules administered by USAC, including the National Lifeline Accountability Database, and for California customers by the California LifeLine program. These records must be retained and made available for audit. We cannot erase them on request, and we will not tell you otherwise.
Service, usage and billing recordsKept for the period required by law and to handle taxes, refunds and disputes.
Security and fraud-prevention recordsThe logs we use to detect SIM-swap and port-out fraud, which protect your line.
A record of your deletion requestSo we can show the request was received and honored.

We do not use retained records for marketing. Retention periods are set out in the Data Retention section of our Privacy Policy.

Cancelling your phone service, separate from the app

Your app account and your phone service are two different things, and deleting the app account leaves your service exactly as it is. If you do want to cancel your SafetyNet Wireless service, or to leave the Lifeline program:

  • Call 1-888-224-3213, or dial 611 from your SafetyNet phone, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 7 PM Central.
  • These requests are taken by phone so that we can verify your identity first. We will confirm what you are asking for before anything changes on your line.
  • De-enrollment requests are processed within the time required by the FCC Lifeline rules. See our Terms and Conditions.
  • Once you leave the program your free monthly minutes, texts and data stop, and you would have to qualify again through the National Verifier to re-enroll. Re-qualifying is not automatic.

How long it takes

  • In the app: your account is deactivated immediately and you are signed out. Deletion of the associated app data is completed within 30 days.
  • By email, form or phone: we complete your request within 30 days of receiving it, and of confirming your identity if we need to, and we send you a confirmation when it is done.

If you want the app back later

The SafetyNet Wireless app has no self sign-up. If you delete your app account and later want to use the app again, call 1-888-224-3213 and ask to have app access restored to your number. Your previous loyalty points and history will not come back.
